Desk hours, sudden lifting, and deconditioning are common. Staying gently mobile is usually better than complete bed rest, unless a doctor has advised otherwise.
Pain after a fall, pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, progressive weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control needs urgent or emergency care.
Reassurance, activity advice and physiotherapy help many people. Imaging is used when nerve symptoms or red flags are present.
Short, comfortable walks are often helpful. Stop if pain shoots down the leg with weakness or the pain is severe after injury.
